Presentation

jQuery and QUnit at the Library of Congress

This presentation will cover a brief overview of the speaker’s knowledge of the use of jQuery and QUnit in various projects at the LoC.  From early use in the World Digital Library (wdl.org), complex application development with MetaSearch (loc.gov/fedsearch/metasearch), to Library-wide use with the Share initiative (read.gov), and finally fundamental web application and JSON ReST  architecture for Prints and Photographs (loc.gov/pictures) which is driven by continuous testing built directly on jQuery and QUnit.  We will also briefly cover usage of jQuery for utility scripting outside the browser, including a web crawler for document indexing and document geocoding with an xml database and google maps API.

About the Presenter

Christopher Thatcher has been working with the Library of Congress since 2007 and is now a full time employee.  He is an avid open source developer working with primarily jQuery and Qunit.  He maintains Envjs (orginally by John Resig), as well as jQuery-Claypool, and many other small projects (github.com/thatcher).

Directions

From the Beltway, take Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) West through Tysons Corners.   Go approximately 1 mile and Chain Bridge becomes Maple Avenue.  Avalon’s offices are in the “Karin’s Florists” Building at the corner of Maple and East Street.   Turn Left onto East Street and park behind the building.  Enter on the side of the building facing East Street and take the stairs or elevator to the 2nd Floor.  Suite 200 is in the front of the building.
